Since 2009 TessCS have been working in partnership with England Athletics and Run Britain to provide traffic management (Chapter 8) training to Race Organisers and volunteers who are involved with running events across the UK.
Our Chapter 8 course is for anyone considering undertaking the role of Traffic Management Operative (TMO) and to understand how to deal with road closures and diversions. All race organisers and volunteers who are involved with road running events endorsed by England Athletics and Run Britain are, as a condition of their race endorsement trained to do this, to be covered by EA insurance and to satisfy local authorities that events will be managed properly.
This has ensured the continuance of many race events across the UK and the re starting of races previously closed down by Highway Authorities due to safety concerns regarding the management of traffic. Race organisers learn how to properly prepare for and write their plans to be covered by insurance and to satisfy local authorities that events will be managed properly.
In turn the Highway Authority will grant permissions for road closures and diversionary routes utilising section 14 or 16 of Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984.
Event Organisers and Event Marshals both in the commercial and voluntary sectors and particularly for those involved with road races have also benefitted from the course.
We have trained well over 1000 people which includes training support to London Olympics 2012 and Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014.
To build on this success and to maintain the continual development of skills TessCS have written and produced an ‘on line’ refresher course. This is now available to everyone who has been trained and will be launched in January 2015.
