As runbritain Road Race Co-ordinator I am responsible for licensing up to 2,500 road and multi-terrain races each year.

Many of these races may have issues or at least questions regarding traffic management in terms of producing a plan, liaising with Local Authorities (LA) and delivery of traffic management schedules on the day. We direct organisations to TESS for their traffic management training and advice because we see them as the leader in this particular field. TESS have worked very closely with runbritain and England Athletics in ensuring that race organisers know their requirements and how to meet them. As a sign of the value we hold regarding our relationship with TESS, we have recently worked with them to introduce a Chapter 8 refresher course for our race organisers.

A growing trend is that an increasing number of LA’s are quoting incorrect legislation when outlining the traffic management requirements of a race to a race organiser. TESS have been extremely supportive in providing detail of what legislation relates to sporting events on the highway both to the LA and the race organiser and on a number of occasions have attended meetings with a particular LA to reinforce that message.

I would recommend Tess Compliance and Safety with The Tess Group as experts in the field who provide the necessary ongoing guidance and support required for event organisers.
